In 1990, Zeki retired from the music industry when his health began to decline from heart disease and diabetes. Instead, wearing ordinary clothes on stage when he performed, Zeki would dress feminine-styled clothing, new hair styles and wore make-up. Later in his career, Zeki decided to change his appearances in order to embrace his sexuality. During his career, Zeki had written several songs, albums and poems while accompanied by upcoming and established musicians. In 1951, Zeki began his music career when he performed his first live concert on Istanbul Radio and he became a big hit with critics and audiences. In 1950, while he was at university, Zeki participated in TRT Istanbul Radio’s music competition where he won first place. Zeki attended Bursa Osmangazi School where his musical abilities were discovered by his teachers and he played a prominent role in his school musicals. When he was growing up, Zeki was an impatient lad, he would not wait to grow up and explore the world with his musical talents. Zeki Müren (1931 – 1996) – Nicknamed as the David Bowie of Turkey, he was born in Bursa, Turkey as the only child of a timber merchant.

While he was making a career for himself, Asik also have a passion for poetry where he translated many works of poems written by writers and storytellers from Arabic to Turkish. After his graduation, Asik worked as a civil servant in Bursa before he returned to Istanbul in 1546 as a cleric at the Fatwa Office. Asik Çelebi (1520 – 1572) – Born as Pir Mehmed in Prizren, Kosovo, Asik left his home town to be educated in a medrese in Istanbul.
